100 Women Who Care

At 6:00 p.m. on a quiet Tuesday two weeks ago, I witnessed something magical. Eighty or more women were gathered, their chatting and excitement not unlike a giant bee hive. However, instead of honey, the end result was something even sweeter; an enormous donation to one Santa Fe non-profit. Sparing everyone involved the extreme effort and time it often takes to produce honey (or in our case, to organize and execute a fundraising event), this took 1 hour. By 7:00 p.m. that evening, as if by magic, a non-profit went home with more than $10,000. All thanks to 100 Women Who Care Santa Fe.

100 Women Who Care originated in Jackson, Michigan in 2008. In 2012, four women founded 100 Women Who Care Santa Fe. Here’s how it works. Meetings are limited to no longer than 60 minutes, four times a year. Each member commits to contributing $100 per meeting ($400 total) or commits as a team (2 or 4 women) ($400 per year total). As of February 2016 (21 meetings),100 Women Who Care Santa Fe raised $149,540 for charities in the Santa Fe area. I hope NMCTR will be one of those organizations!

On May 2, 2017, Board President Shelley Phelan, 2 awesome Board advisors (Deborah Lamal and Marilyn Miller), and I joined 100 Women Who Care Santa Fe.  As a team of four, we will have one vote each time 100 Women Who Care meets this year.

We will nominate NMCTR at the next meeting(s). If NMCTR’s name is pulled out of the hat, we will need members to vote.  Please become an individual member or form a team with some friends so that you can vote for NMCTR at future meetings. Here’s how you can help: If $100 for an individual membership is too steep, bring a friend and split the donation. You each pay $50 and share the vote. OR bring three friends and each of you donate $25. Just remember that for every $100, you get 1 vote.
