When it comes to camp, children with disabilities do not have as many choices as other children do. The idea can seem daunting to parents – will my child get the special attention they need? Will my child be able to participate fully? Will my child make friends? Will they understand my child’s disability? NMCTR does just that by offering a Summer Enrichment Program. This program offers a unique summer program similar to a camp for kids with disabilities. This program is a weeklong program with daily mounted and unmounted activities designed to accommodate those children that may need additional support.

This year, we held TWO different weeks of our Summer Enrichment Program with a total of 13 participants. These participants enjoyed a daily mounted riding lesson and a fun arts and crafts activity to learn more about horses. We painted horses, made tie dye shirts, bobbed for apples, created our own stable of horses out of play-doh, and so much more! We could not have done this without our amazing group of volunteers! Our volunteers donated over 250 hours over those two weeks!

When we asked the participants how their week was, one girl responded – “This was the BEST week of my life!”
