 Position Title: Development Director                

Reports to: Executive Director

Employee Classification: Part- time /Exempt

Qualifications:

The Development Director is an experienced and highly effective professional fundraiser. They demonstrate a very organized, analytical, and solution-oriented approach to fundraising. They are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, always with a positive attitude. They have a demonstrated ability to propose, plan, implement, and evaluate successful fundraising strategies and initiatives. They have excellent communication skills in both writing and speaking, and are proficient in the use of social media. And they are committed to and enthusiastic about NMCTR’s mission. Experience with horses is a plus.

Responsibilities:

The Development Director is a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Executive Director, and working with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to review, refine and implement the Board’s comprehensive Strategic Development Plan for NMCTR. The Development Director cultivates and secures gift support from private foundations, government entities, and individual private donors.

Job Duties:

  • Create a plan and calendar of fundraising initiatives, including special events, corporate and individual solicitations, sponsorships, gifts-in-kind support.
  • Create, maintain, monitor, and evaluate detailed plans of action for all fundraising initiatives, including budgets and goals.
  • Ensure the preparation of all content and materials needed for all fundraising initiatives.
  • Conduct on-going assessment of the effectiveness of all fundraising initiatives and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the Board and other staff with their solicitations.
  • Maintain effective systems for tracking and cultivating donors using the Bonterra (Network for Good) software.
  • Work with Executive Director and Board members to leverage established donor relationships and to cultivate new donors through networking and relationship-building.
  • Plan, review, implement, and evaluate donor appeals including gifts-in-kind solicitations to ensure retention/cultivation of current and new donors.
  • Research, identify, and engage both current and prospective donors, maintaining on-going relationships and encouraging long-term support of NMCTR.
  • Develop and coordinate donor recognition programs.
  • Conduct stewardship and cultivation activities to build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with donors, clients, volunteers, and the wider communities that NMCTR serves.
  • Accompany the Executive Director in attending community events to make presentations to audiences both large and small, with varied demographics and purposes, to raise awareness of NMCTR in Santa Fe County and surrounding communities.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Board to develop and maintain strategic partnerships in Santa Fe County and surrounding areas.
  • Maintain timely and necessary database records, files, reports, and resource materials pertinent to fundraising initiatives using Bonterra (Network for Good) software.
  • Working with the budget team, develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget for development activities.
