May 20, 2019 –
United States Pony Club (USPC) is the largest equestrian educational organization in the world. The cornerstones of USPC foundation are education, safety, sportsmanship, stewardship and FUN. Members learn horseback riding and the care of horses through mounted sports. The skills, habits, and values instilled through horsemanship will apply to every part of a member’s life. Watermelon Mountain Pony Club (WMPC) is one of the four Pony Clubs in New Mexico and founded in the 1980s by a group of local parents who wanted their children to be exposed to the fun and the values of Pony Club. The annual Watermelon Mountain Pony Club Horse Trials is their most significant fundraiser, a wonderful opportunity to support the local Pony Club youth, and recognize the children who have developed responsibility, moral judgment, leadership, and self-confidence.
For the last 4 years, WMPC has invited NMCTR to bring riders and compete in the Horse Trials. May 4th 2019, four of NMCTR riders participated in the WMPC Horse Trials at Expo New Mexico. Our riders rode a dressage test in the indoor arena, displaying confidence, independence and horsemanship skills that they have been working on all year!
It was amazing to see the NMCTR riders put their disabilities behind them and truly allow their abilities to shine! Well done riders!
