The Power of Horses to Heal

January 10, 2018 –

Well, 2018 is promising to be a very happy new year at NMCTR!  Spring will usher in a new session of classes, and to add to that excitement, the PATH Int’l Region 10 Spring Conference is coming to Santa Fe! We are grateful to Path Int’l for giving us this opportunity to shine a spotlight on our program while welcoming PATH members from around the region to the City Different. We are especially thrilled that on Sunday morning, we will be hosting conference activities at the NMCTR facility, featuring our very special guest, author Tim Hayes. (Keep reading for details!)

The conference is open to members from all five of the Region 10 states; Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. Therapeutic riding centers from across the region will send their staff, volunteers, students and their families, and any one else who wants to learn more about equine assisted activities and therapies. Presentations will cover a range of topics to include therapy program administration, equine welfare, working with veterans, EAL and EFP, to name just a few. Continuing Education credits are also available for qualified attendees.

Conference dates are Friday, May 18th through Sunday, May 20th with the following schedule:

  • Friday, May 18th: “Meet & Greet”at the Drury Plaza Hotel from 4-6pm
  • Saturday May 19th: Presentations at the Drury Plaza Hotel from 8am-5pm (including a Tim Hayes Book Talk)
  • Sunday, May 20th: Barn Day at New Mexico Center for Therapeutic Riding from 8:30am-12:30pm

As a bonus, NMCTR will be presenting Tim Hayes; author of the acclaimed book Riding Home: The Power of Horses to Heal. In his book, Tim uses scientific evidence along with personal experience to describe how horses and our relationships with them provide unique opportunities to heal psychological, emotional, and physical wounds. Tim will share his valuable wisdom during a 2-day Natural Horsemanship clinic from 10 to 4pm, as well as a Q and A about the book and his experiences Saturday evening. We are honored to have Tim as our guest for this exciting weekend, and we hope you will join us. Come ready to be inspired!
